Wildfires and your car

Driving through a wildfire

We've helped a had a lot of folks recently that have driven through some wildfire impacted areas. Here are our top 3 tips on how to care for your vehicle after that experience.

#1 - Wash your vehicle. A thorough wash and dry of your entire vehicle to remove the contaminants from the air to avoid damaging your paint. If you run a hand over your freshly washed vehicle and the paint feels "gritty" then you will want a clay decontamination service to remove anything imbedded into your paint before it can do major damage. (our Quick Clean and Protect service will take care of this and provide fresh protection for your paint afterward).

#2 - Check your air cabin filter. Remove your air cabin filter and replace it if it looks dirty (just like the filter in your furnace). If you're not sure how to do this, Youtube is your friend. It's usually not a difficult process and the filters can be picked up at Canadian Tire, PartSource or Amazon for around $30.

#3 - Clean the interior of your vehicle. Remove all built up residue from inside your vehicle. Not only will you enjoy that new car feeling but you will avoid negative interactions between the residue and your vehicle (especially leather seats).Better yet, have us take care of it (choose the Quick Clean Interior service).

To prepare yourself in the future pack yourself a Fire-centric Emergency Kit

In addition to the usual suspects (jumper cables, flashlight, food, etc.) your fire-centric kit should include the following:

  • Smartphone charger to connect to the car so that you can call emergency services if need be.

  • Fire retardant blanket for each passenger.

  • Extra bottled water (12-24 bottle case, contingent upon distance travelled).

  • Remove unnecessary flammables such as gas and oil cans, synthetic fabrics, and anything that you don’t absolutely need.
